Nacul

Founded in 1972, the Nacul Center was given this name to emphasize the Center’s dedication to the art and science of building and living in harmony with nature.

Nacul Banner

The term nacul had been coined only several years earlier by architect Tullio Inglese to reflect the merging of nature and culture.

The building, previously Wesley Chapel, was renovated to house TIA Architects, the Nacul Center for Ecological Architecture, and a number of studios. In 1974 the Center received a Fox Foundation Grant and the Nacul Center was established as a non-profit corporation (501-C3).

na·cul [ney-kuhl] noun 1. the art and science of building and living in harmony with nature. Origin: 1968; acronym of nature and culture, coined by architect Tullio Inglese.

Since that time, Nacul Center has instructed over 400 interns in designing solar buildings, sustainable communities, and cooperative housing. Principles of ecological architecture and sustainable design have also been taught through Tullio’s lectures, seminars, and workshops at various colleges and universities. The Center has researched, promoted, distributed and specified natural, non-toxic building materials in an effort to produce healthy buildings. Our work has received many awards and has been the subject of several television programs.
