The Conway House is a basic cape designed as a retreat but with the intention of adding a bedroom wing in the future. The stair, set at an angle, creates an interesting floor plan.
Sunlight penetrates horizontal wood slats at the stair, resulting in wonderful shadows. The house is passive solar and has a standing seam metal roof facing directly south – perfect orientation for the installation of photovoltaic panels. A first floor window on the north side can be removed and replaced with a door for access to the bedrooms proposed to be built in this location. In the meantime, there are two sleeping lofts overlooking the living room below.
